Will Brett Favre retire?

Football fans from Minnesota and probably some from New York and Green Bay, are all wondering if Brett Favre will give it another go for the coming 2010 NFL football season or just retire. (Yep, we did the exact same thing last year, and the year before that…)

Performing in stellar fashion all season, Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings looked primed, even destined for a Super Bowl win. But, as has happened in the past, Flingin’ Favre sent another pass into the defense’s arms to end what had all the earmarks of a magical Super Bowl run.

While his season is over, Favre’s offseason and the debate and speculation regarding ‘will he’ or ‘won’t he’ retire has just begun. But as far as the Minnesota Vikings are concerned, they don’t want to make the same mistake the Packers did a few years ago. You know, like giving him a deadline on coming up with a decision if he wants to come back or not.

You read it, Vikings coach Brad Childress, the same guy who feuded with Favre a bit when the Vikings started losing some games in the regular season, claims he doesn’t have a deadline for Favre’s decision unlike what the Packers did when they ”crowned” Aaron Rodgers as their new starting quarterback, sending Favre then to New York.

Childress doesn’t mind preparing for both scenarios, that is enter the new season with Brett Favre or Tavaris Jackson, provided the latter can win his starting role back.

For all ya’ll who didn’t know, Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels were supposed to compete for the starting quarterback spot until Brett Favre came after training camp in mid August.

Rosenfels is still under contract, and Jackson will be a restricted free agent if there’s no new collective bargaining agreement between the league and the union as expected. Assuming that happens, there won’t be a salary cap, either.

”Really, I think our numbers will be just fine if [Favre] comes back or he doesn’t come back,” Childress said. ”I don’t know. It’s up to him, but it’s not a deal where I need to put a gun at his head and say, ‘I need to know in a week, two weeks, two months.”’

Well, we do.

  1. lol a couple of of the feedback people post are silly and unrelated, quite often i ask myself if they in reality read the posts and threads before posting or if perhaps they just skim the subject of the blog post and pen the first thing that comes to mind. regardless, it is really enjoyable to look over intelligent commentary now and then compared to the identical, old oppinion vomit which i quite often discover on the net i’m off to have fun with a few rounds of facebook poker hasta la vista
