Is Amar’e Stoudemire on his way out of Phoenix?

Will the Suns trade Amar’e Stoudemire?

After trading away Shaquille O’Neal and Shawn Marion, the Suns are once again on the verge of letting another one of the cornerstones of their franchise go this 2010 NBA basketball season. And in case you haven’t heard of the rumors, Amar’e Stoudemire may be on the trading block.

You read it, there are rumors claiming that the Phoenix Suns want to trade Amar’e Stoudemire away before we get to the trading deadline in a few days. The rumors claim that the Suns are shopping Stoudemire around now that he’s an All-Star and, more importantly, healthy.

Also according to the reports, the Suns have been trying to orchestrate a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers that will send Amar’e Stoudemire and Leandro Barbosa to Philly in exchange for Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert. Can you believe that? I know the Suns are trying desperately hard to screw themselves over but c’mon, it doesn’t have to be THIS obvious.

Heck, they can also trade Steve Nash to Orlando for J.J. Redick while they’re at it.

Sure, Andre Iguodala fills up the box score on a nightly basis, averaging 17.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 5.7 apg and 1.0 steals per contest, he can also be dynamic in the open court with Steve Nash, provided the Suns decide to keep him this season. However, the guy has this ridiculous contract, which pays him $12.3 million next season, $13.5 mil in 2011-12 and $14.7 million in 2012-13 before he has a chance to pick up a $15.9 million player option the year after that.

If the Suns like Iguodala, they better really like him because he will be at least one of the faces of the franchise in the post-Nash years under this scenario. Dalembert, a native of Haiti, is also a salary burden on the books at $12.2 million next season.

If the Suns are trying to get rid of Stoudemire to prepare for the future then getting tied to either of these guys’ contracts for the next few years is a future the Suns should not ask for.

Another team the Suns would love to have a trade with is the worst team in the NBA right now, the New Jersey Nets. The Nets have plenty of pieces that might interest the Phoenix Suns. For starters, they own 10 different draft picks over the next few years. They also have a few young guys that might just excite the Suns management and could probably put together a nice little package that would provide the Suns some financial relief.

The Miami Heat are also interested in dealing Michael Beasley and Udonis Haslem to Phoenix for Amare Stoudemire. Pairing up Dwyane Wade and Amare Stoudemire would really be an interesting tandem.

Of course, that is if they can keep Dwyane Wade at the end of the year.
