Is Iverson screwing up the Grizzlies already?
October 27, 2009
Wow, that didn’t take long.
Sports in Tennessee is really taking a blow these days. While the Titans continue to throw the season away in Nashville, the Grizzlies are about to welcome the 2009 NBA basketball season in complete disarray with their biggest acquisition of the offseason singlehandedly fucking up their campaign even before it gets the chance to officially start.
Ah yes, Allen Iverson is injured again, just like the last time he was in Detroit and his last few days back in Denver, Colorado. After all the promises, the rally speeches and the tweets on Twitter, Iverson is really becoming one pathetic letdown already. And did I mention the season hasn’t even started yet?
The Memphis Grizzlies reported that Allen Iverson will miss three weeks after an MRI revealed a partial tear in his left hamstring. And if Iverson will miss playing time that long, that means his status for the regular season opener against the Pistons is doubtful.
Surprisingly, Iverson is happy about the whole thing. Probably because that’ll let him earn butt-loads of cash sitting on the bench. Hell, he did the exact same thing with the Detroit Pistons anyway so I’m not surprised.
For what it’s worth, Iverson did explain why he’s happy about the situation.
”The way I see it, I’m glad it’s happening right now rather than in the season,” Iverson said in a press conference. ”That’s the only positive thing I can take out of the whole thing.”
Iverson says he still expects to be back in time for the season opener. He told everybody the exact same thing when he injured his leg during the Grizzlies’ training camp. He said his leg was starting to feel a lot better and claimed he’ll be back soon. Then, just like that, he injured his hamstring, putting him back on the shelf faster than your grandmother’s Harry Potter.
”My whole thing is to work as hard as I can to try and get back to 100 percent,” Iverson said. ”I don’t want to try and come back too early and have this thing lingering on throughout the whole season.”
Meh.
