Kurt Warner to retire after losing the Super Bowl?

February 3, 2009

Is Kurt Warner on his way out? Well, he’s been thinking about it.

The 37-year-old Kurt Warner has been contemplating on calling it quits even after the Arizona Cardinals lost Super Bowl XLIII. It all began after watching his teammate kurt_warner1Anquan Boldin go down with a concussion in the closing moments of an already lost game to the Jets back in the regular season. Warner said then that he’s considering retirement more than ever.

‘’I’m definitely considering retirement more than I ever have before,’’ Kurt Warner said, ‘’but that doesn’t mean it’s more than 50 percent or anything like that. I’m just going to consider it.’’

These comments came after Yahoo! reported that Warner sent his wife a text message about retiring immediately after Anquan Boldin went down with the concussion. Warner’s wife said he meant immediately, while Warner said that wasn’t the case.

‘’There’s no question that I texted her and said that I was contemplating and thinking about it because she’s wanted me to retire for a couple of years now,’’ the Arizona Cardinals quarterback said. ‘’It wasn’t I was going to retire last week. It was more I’m just really trying to keep this thing in perspective moving forward.’’

‘’It’s a great game and it’s done great things for me and my family, but the bottom line is when I’m done I want to be able to walk away and be everything I need to be for my family.’’

Warner has played most of his career concerned about losing his spot to a younger quarterback. He played opposite Marc Bulger in St. Louis, Eli Manning in New York and now, Matt Leinart in Arizona.

Warner is in the final year of his contract with the Cards and head coach Ken Whisenhunt has already said that Matt Leinart is their franchise quarterback for the future.

Yup, I guess you can almost anticipate that he’ll walk away for sure.
