Stephon Marbury may head to the Boston Celtics or the Miami Heat

The New York Knicks are finally Stephon Marbury free and the uncooperative former NBA all star point guard has the freedom to join any NBA team or any of the NBA’s playoff contenders. Stephon Marbury was finally waived last Tuesday by the New York Knicks then ending a disorderly 5 year stretch wherein the former NBA All Star had a hard time leading the New York Knicks to a victory in the NBA Playoffs.

The New York Knicks already released a statement saying that both parties have an agreement however not disclosing any of the financial details of the said arrangement. New York Knicks president Donnie Walsh has finalized the New York Knick and the Stephon Marbury buyout.

Donnie Walsh was hoping for a trade and to get another player for Stephon Marbury, however the steep price of $21 Million for the salary of Stephon Marbury in the way there were no takers in the NBA. Stephon Marbury is now eligible to play in the NBA Playoffs for any NBA team that would sign him since he was waived by March 1. Stephon Marbury has been linked to the defending NBA Champions the Boston Celtics who need of a backup guard with the loss of Tony Allen to an injury.

Despite being the most talented NBA player on the New York Knicks roster, Stephon Marbury must shake of some rust before engaging in any kind of competitive play in the NBA. With Mike D’Antoni in the helm of the New York Knicks, the former Phoenix Suns coach did not give the unpredictable point guard of the New York Knicks a chance to break the spirit of the team again just as he did for Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas in previous NBA Seasons.

According to a statement issued by the New York Knicks, they finished the financial problems after Stephon Marbury agreed to subtract the nearly $400,000 in salary the New York Knicks had lost after the point guard refused Mike D’Antoni’s request for him to play in a game in Detroit last November when the new York Knicks were short handed. Stephon Marbury then went on to criticized Mike D’Antoni and even stated that he did not trust Mike D’Antoni that’s why he would not agree to play even if the New York Knicks were undermanned. With the refusal of Stephon Marbury in surrendering $1 Million on his contract, it is yet to be known what the temperamental Point Guard gave up to get his release papers.

The Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat are the two NBA teams that are frequently mentioned as possible destinations for Stephon Marbury. To the NBA team who would be getting Stephon Marbury, it would be vital for their NBA playoff hopes that Stephon Marbury is yet to play in a single NBA Regular Season game and must be ready for some attitude in the locker room.

If the Miami Heat get Stephon Marbury, then Dwyane Wade better set his foot straight on who is the first option on the team. We are yet to see whether Dwyane Wade and Stephon Marbury would work out. This would leave Michael Beasley dropping yet another notch in touches as we all know how much Stephon Marbury likes to shoot the rock.

If the Boston Celtics on the other hand get Stephon Marbury, then we can say that the defending NBA Champions would encounter little turbulence in the NBA Playoffs as Stephon Marbury would surely endanger the teamwork the Boston Celtics led by Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are known for.
