The NBA trade block has Amare Stoudemire taking the bigger slice of the cake
February 13, 2009

The owner of the Memphis Grizzlies Michael Heisley confirmed that he had recent involvement in a trade discussions regarding Phoenix Suns power forward Amare Stoudemire and stated that he did not accept the Phoenix Suns’ conditions of the alleged megabuck trade.
“We had conversations,” Michael Heisley said. “But there is no deal on the table. I think they’ll go somewhere else.”
Now that the Phoenix Suns’ power forward Amare Stoudemire is on the trading block and that the Memphis Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley said he already had talks with the Phoenix Suns but rejected the offer they made. Michael Heisley did not disclose specifics about the trade talks and only said that he spoke with Robert Sarver of the Phoenix Suns twice and the Phoenix Suns were firm on the requirements they presented or are expecting for dealing Stoudemire. The ourter of Amare Stoudemire within the very competitive Western Conference is not a factor that would be hard to overcome, however a very reliable insider said that the Phoenix Suns’ asking price is not that cheap to look at.
The Phoenix Suns are said to have asked the Memphis Grizzlies to come up with a deal that would included forwards Rudy Gay and Hakim Warrick and a bonus addition of point guard Mike Conley.
“All I can tell you is that we don’t have anything imminent on any front at this point,” Memphis Grizzlies General Manger Chris Wallace said.
Chris Wallace already had some negotiations with the Phoenix Suns general manager Steve Kerr for better options for both of the NBA teams. The main point of these negotiations is that the Memphis Grizzlies have room in their salary cap to give a breath of fresh air for the Phoenix Suns who clearly have trouble accommodating many NBA stars since the huge contract of Shaquille O’Neal takes up most of the space.
Other teams that are also on the hunt for the NBA All Star power forward from the Phoenix Suns are the Chicago Bulls, the Golden State Warriors, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Sacramento Kings are aggressively pursuing Amare Stoudemire. However what is most likely to happen is that the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat would pursue the Memphis Grizzlies into a three team trade that would ship Amare Stoudemire to the Miami Heat while the underused and underachieving rookie in Michael Beasley would then head to the Memphis Grizzlies. Hopefully this trade happens within the next few days since the NBA Trade Deadline would be on Feb 19, 6 days from today.
