Can the Cowboys get it together in Week 7?
October 25, 2009
The trading deadline is over. That means it’s all business from here all the way to the Super Bowl.
And on Week 7 of the 2009 NFL football season, that’s exactly what we’ll be having. Hopefully, it’ll be good business for the rest of you when you win some dough betting on this weekend’s games.
And speaking of this weekend’s games, the Dallas Cowboys are back from their bye week as they take on the Atlanta Falcons. This game will feature two of the most prolific tight ends in the NFL, Dallas’ Jason Witten and Atlanta’s Tony Gonzalez. Only thing is, Witten hasn’t been getting any passes from Tony Romo lately while Gonzalez is keeping the Falcons look brilliant for picking him up during the offseason.
Tony Gonzalez leads all tight ends with 471 receptions and 5,560 yards, helping the Atlanta Falcons to a 4-1 mark. He scored one in their 21-14 win over Chicago after connecting with quarterback Matt Ryan who has guided the team to wins in seven of the past eight games.
However, getting a win over a team coming off from a bye week is tough, especially against a Dallas Cowboys team looking to give their new Cowboy Stadium only its second win in three games. We’re going with the ‘Boys by three.
On Sunday Night Football, we have the Arizona Cardinals visiting the Big Apple to face the New York Giants. New York is 5-1 and leads the NFC East while the Cardinals are tied for first in the NFC West with a 3-2 record.
Both teams have a superb quarterback who can carry the team to victory with Kurt Warner still patrolling the offense for Arizona while Eli Manning continues to strut his stuff in New York.
Kurt Warner, who spent the 2004 season with the Giants, passed for 276 yards last week to reach 30,000 career yards. He accomplished the feat in his 114th game, tying Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino for the fastest to reach 30,000. Warner is looking to prove to the Giants that he still have what it takes to play in this league. And although it lacks the media attention Favre got when he played against Green Bay, revenge games are always good and you can expect Warner to bring his A-game.
Unfortunately, the New York Giants are still probably a little agitated after the Saints dealt them their first loss of the season. That’s why we’re picking them to bounce back. And since Eli Manning won nine of his last 10 starts at Giants Stadium, there’s no reason for you to think otherwise.
On Monday Night Football, we have two teams in the NFC East looking to bounce back from their disastrous outing the last time they were on the field.
It’s the Washington Redskins taking on the Philadelphia Eagles as they relive their storied rivalry in the NFC East. As of this writing, the New York Giants lead the division, but after that it’s still everybody’s game and a win on Monday night will be big for both.
The Philadelphia Eagles were shocked last week when they could only manage to put up nine points in a stunning 13-9 loss to the struggling Oakland Raiders. You just know they can’t wait to get back on a football field after that fiasco in Oakland, luckily, they have the Redskins who, just a few days ago, managed to humiliate themselves even further without being on the field.
You see, the Washington Redskins just stripped their own head coach Jim Zorn, of his play calling responsibilities. That means, Zorn is till the team’s coach but he won’t be making any coaching. Yes, that’s the kind of stupidity they have going on right now in the nation’s capital and this is the perfect opportunity the Eagles can capitalize on to get back in the NFC East.
