Did Nate Kaeding fixed the Chargers’ loss to the Jets?
January 19, 2010
Yes, some of those guys are accusing Kaeding of game fixing, if you can believe that.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, the San Diego Chargers (Remember ‘em? The ”hottest” team in the league two weeks ago?) was taken out of the 2010 NFL playoffs rather prematurely after Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding missed not one, not two, but THREE freakin’ field goals to allow the New York Jets to weasel their way to yet another playoff victory.
And you can bet your ass San Diego Chargers fans haven’t forgiven poor ol’ Nate yet. It turns out that those fans hate the guy so much that they even came up with these terrible internet jokes that even Eminem will find offensive. Wanna’ read some of ‘em? Here they are.
”Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to hang himself last night? He got the noose around his neck but couldn’t kick the chair.”
”Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to shoot himself last night? The bullet was wide right.”
”Did you hear Nate Kaeding tried to swallow a bottle of sleeping pills last night? He choked on the first three.”
Oh yes, they hate the guy alright but who can really blame these fans? I mean, Kaeding was money all year long. In fact, he was the most accurate kicker in all of football before last Sunday. Heck, he only missed three field goals in total all year and for him to miss three in their AFC divisional playoff game against the New York Jets last Sunday to become the first kicker to go 0-3 in an NFL playoff game since 1995 was, well, infuriating.
So what the heck went wrong?
”I’ve had one of these rested on my shoulders before,” said Kaeding after missing all three field-goal attempts in the 17-14 loss to the New York Jets. ”Professionally, it’s a tough thing to get through. I’m not gonna feel sorry for myself. I feel sorry for my teammates, coaches and support staff here. I feel like I let everybody down.”
Strangely enough, the other ”one” missed field goal Kaeding was talking about was aganst the Jets during the 2004 playoffs.
”It’s going to be a tough few months, but if you relish the good part, you’ve gotta work through the bad as well. It’ll be tough. I’ll let this rest, then pick up the pieces.”
”If you play this game and can only accept it when it goes well, you’re in the wrong business, especially in my position. You’re going to miss some, unfortunately. Some days like this will come. My really bad days have been untimely ones.”
